Dedicated to the memory of Jenny Scanlan

This site is a tribute to Jenny Scanlan, who was born in Southampton on November 13, 1931. She is loved by many and as we sadly can't join together in celebrating her life at a public funeral, please let's do it here. You can add memories, thoughts or photos below (don't worry if there's a slight delay before they appear). There's an option to donate to the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust, a charity she supported (particularly after she won a 'red hot Mini' in their competition for her strapline: 'Helps you arrive alive'!). But donations are not at all necessary, only if you want to.

You can find the Order of Service for 21/11/20 in 'pictures' and the celebrant's tribute to Jenny under 'Lifestories'. The webcast of the ceremony may be viewed until 18th December. If you'd like to watch, please message me (Linda) and I'll send you login details or use the username and password you already have for https://www.obitus.com/

Thoughts

So sad to hear this news. Jenny was a frequent visitor to New Street Books & we enjoyed meeting her at Bookfairs. Jenny welcome to the Morrab Library committee & we worked together with others to make the annual book fair happen. Jenny was always kind, thoughtful, warm & interested & interesting. Kelvin & I will miss her. Thinking of her today & of her family.

Jenny became great friends with my mum Ruth when they were both students at Oxford and she was my godmother. Although I haven’t seen her for some years I have very fond memories of her from my childhood. She always looked very stylish, elegant and cool with a lovely way about her. It was always fun to see her and Hugh, and she definitely fitted the bill of glam Godmother! I loved her art and a couple of her paintings hang in our family home (one a vibrant coastal scene, the other a thistly plant). I was fascinated when she started painting runway landing lights from light planes – a leftfield idea that seemed typical of her flair. She will be much missed but I hope you can enjoy happy memories of her creative, smart, fun-loving spirit. Sophie Davies

I was very inspired by Jenny. She seemed to have a polymath brain and a keen sense of humour to go with it. Her love of books, botany and drawing are the things I remember most about her but I’m sure there was much much more to her than this. Lots of loving thoughts to her three children at this sad time.
