Jenny was a very old friend , we met in college at oxford ,where I mostly remember a lot of dressmaking; I learned most of my early skill in that from her, though I do remember her saying that she somehow always found herself sewing into the pins, on the machine . She came to my wedding & was godmother to our daughter Sophie. She was always enviably, casually ,elegant. We knew & liked her first husband Richard Cracknell, & were deeply sorry when he died. Memories of her in their first little house off the (?)Lower Richmond Road stirring up spinach & something to make a sauce. We were abroad when he died but I think my mother visited him in hospital. Much later when we were home on leave we went to see her & Hugh at Robin's Bow in Camberly,& this is where our children remember her. When James started boarding school she gave him copy of Dracula, much appreciated I think. We loved her painting, & have 2 beautiful canvases which we bought. Also her writing , poetry & stories. And splendid long letters, not frequent but a joy to receive. Sad that we didn't make it down to Cornwall to see her. Her presence among our friends will be missed so much. Ruth & Peter Davies.
